Solapur Independence movement plays unique role and place in the history of India’s freedom fight.
Post arrest of Mahatma Gandhi in May 1930, large scale protests and demonstrations were held across the country. Solapur wasn’t an exception. A wave of protests hit across the city and police had to use all their strength to control it. When many innocent citizens lost their lives in cruel police firing, angry mob attacked police station. All policemen and other officers just ran out of Solapur.
This situation gave 3 days of independence to Solapur from 9th to 11th May 1930. Isn’t that amazing?
