Badava means ‘Poor’ in local language. The linga was made by a poor woman, hence got a name Badavi Linga. In a simple shrine, the Shiva Linga is placed just near Lakshmi Narasimha in Hampi.
The 3 mt high monolithic Badavi Linga is largest Shiva Linga in Hampi. Hampi has many such mighty sculptures like Yeduru Basavanna – the Nandi, Lakshmi Narasimha, Ganesha.
Shrine is open from front and top. Channel of water flow through this chamber. Hence, the shrine chamber is always full of water. This adds mysterious calmness to the small temple. Sunlight focuses on the linga through open top.
Lord Shiva’s linga has three eyes lightly carved eyes adds completeness. Devotees throw floors on the linga from out side the door because of water.

Badavi Linga can be covered in few hours in Hampi sight seeing. The shrine places near Lakshmi Narasimha. Hampi is well equipped with hotels and all tourist needs. Hospet is nearby town.
