    Mathura also popularly known as Brajbhoomi is one of the renowned pilgrimage destination of India. This holy site is known to be the birth place of Lord Krishna. Mathura has got popular tourist sites such as Dwarikadheesh temple, Krishna Janmabhoomi, Radha Kund, Potara kund and many more destinations to visit.

    Potra Kund is one of the four kunds in Mathura and is the water pond where baby clothes of Lord Krishna were washed in his childhood. Potra in local language literally means baby’s cloths.

    The water tank is made in red sandstone and has steps to descend inside. The place is a popular tourist spot and is thronged by pilgrims. The steps of the tank were built by Mahadji Scindia in 1782. They were restored by his descendants in 1850

    The Potra Kund is one of the few sites in Mathura preserved by the tourism authorities to develop into a tourists spot. The holy pond situated adjacent to the Krishna janmabhoomi.

    Devotees throng during janmashtami festival. A fair or Mela is arranged during Janmashtami eve. During the fair there will be a beautiful Light and sound show which is mesmerizing during the eve, whole Mathura will be lit up with beautiful lights and lamps. There is a very huge boat for the float festival for the deity and his consorts is been situated in the pond. This holy tank is the largest kunds of whole Mathura city.
