Today’s modern Bikaner city is built upon a place called Jungladesh. Placed on the old trade route between Gujarat Coast and Central Asia, Jungladesh was an oasis within Thar desert.
An Interesting History of Bikaner
Bikaner got an interesting history. Maharaja Rao Jodha, the great Rathore ruler, established Jodhpur. Bika was a second son of Maharaja Rao. Being a second son, Bika was not supposed to get the right to the crown. He decided to build his own kingdom. Ambitious Bika conquered a large region of northern Rajasthan and of Thar desert known as Jungladesh.
Jungladesh was an important place on the important trade route between Gujarat Coast and Central Asia. It was known as an oasis of Thar with his water strings.
Bika established his own state – Bikaner. Bikaner means settlement of Bika which was established in 1472. Bika further constructed a stone fort during 1478 which was existed in Bikaner city. Junagarh or Chintamani fort was built during 1571 to 1611 AD. Post which the importance of an original fort descended.
