Deities of Shamlaji temple represents a dummy heaven on the walls and pillars. Elegantly ornamented temple walls depicts stories from great epics and puranas of Hinduism. Lord Shiva, Lord Brahma, Lord Vishnu, Lord Ganesha, Devi Shakti and Ashta Matrika and other element gods like Indra, Agni (the fire), Vayu (the air) and so on.
Various incarnations of Lord Vishnu including Varaha, Narasimha, Krishna and Rama are carved in details. Stories of these incarnations can be read through these stone arts. Stories of Krishna Leelas and Ramayana at Shamlaji can be read in details in my other articles.
Being a Vishnu temple, Vishnu and his forms have prominent place in the sculptures. Shankha, Chakra and Gada bearing Vishnu is an attraction of the temple. Shamlaji Vishnu is also popular as Gadadhar!
